20080905 CAMEROON. Logs spilled across the main highway east in Central Cameroon after the truck that was carrying them flipped over during an accident. Logging trucks travel deeper to the interior of the Cameroon and beyond into The Democratic Republic of Congo and Central African Republic. This area of Cameroon has been determined by researchers to be the origin of HIV/AIDS which is known to have come from a local species of chimpanzee believed to have jumped to humans as a result of close contact during hunting and consumption of their meat. As logging trucks create new roads through previously remote sections of forest viruses are easier able to travel from the interior and more humans are potentially exposed.
